Progressivism denotes the political philosophy that leads to human progress.

It is forbidden to question what this means or to ask for a coherent list of principles that characterizes it. (You can ask for a list of such principles. You just can't demand that they be self-consistent.)

Progressives will insist on the moral purity of their historical genesis, emphasizing the role played by classic muckrakers, like Lincoln Stephens, Ida Tarbell or Upton Sinclair, political reformers like Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Oliver Wendell Holmes and social reformers like Margaret Sanger and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Any discussion of such topics as eugenics or Malthusianism is either forbidden or severely restricted. Any discussion of the connection between progressivism and Fascism or Nazism is absolutely forbidden. Any discussion of the actual historical record of progressive regimes, such as Soviet Russia, Communist China or the First French Republic, or, more to the point, the connection between progressive principles and the outbreak of abuses, is strictly forbidden.
